David Hume (1711-1776) was a Scottish philosopher and historian. He was, along with the Englishman John Locke (1632-1704) and the Irishman George Berkeley (1685-1753), one of the greatest of the British empiricists.
I first read Hume in my late teens. I spent countless hours reading and re-reading his book A Treatise of Human Nature (1739).
